All eyes will be on former presidents Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki later this month as the two political heavyweights prepare to testify before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) inquiry hearings.
The inquiry has been probing whether alleged attempts were made to prevent the investigation and prosecution of alleged political interference in TRC cases.

Jasmin Sooka says she expected more from Frank Chikane after Vlok plea deal
Former Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Commissioner Jasmin Sooka told the TRC Cases Inquiry that she was disappointed by Reverend Frank Chikane’s media statement calling the plea bargain in his attempted murder case a “win-win situation”.
On Monday, Sooka resumed her cross-examination before the Khampepe Commission of Inquiry, probing allegations of political interference with TRC cases following her first appearance in February.
Sooka reiterated her earlier statement that Chikane could have pushed for former minister Adriaan Vlok and others to be held accountable for their atrocities following his attempted poisoning in the 80s.

Nomarussia Bonase, a member of the Khulumani Galela group and a victim of apartheid-era violence, recounted the anguish of losing her brother at the hands of security forces.
Growing up in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, Bonase characterised her upbringing as one filled with violations that she and her family suffered, and recounted the moment when she watched her brother, then 23, gunned down by apartheid security forces — known as the “stability soldiers” — while awaiting public transport in Germiston in 1993.

Mbeki is scheduled to testify on October 19 and 20, while Zuma is expected to appear on October 22.

At the Khampepe Commission of Inquiry into delayed TRC prosecutions veteran ANC stalwart, Dr Mathews Phosa, said he had been “disappointed” to learn that former President Thabo Mbeki had attempted to delay testifying.
Phosa, now 74, holds the earliest and most significant chunk of history about the earliest negotiations between the former apartheid state and the African National Congress (ANC) in the 1990s when issues of human rights abuses and amnesty were discussed.

Zuma, Mbeki set to testify before TRC inquiry this month

Cape Town – Former presidents Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki are set to appear before the judicial inquiry investigating alleged interference in the investigation and prosecution of apartheid-era crimes.
Mbeki is expected to testify on 19 and 20 October, while Zuma is scheduled to appear before the inquiry on 22 October.
The inquiry, chaired by retired Justice Sisi Khampepe, is investigating allegations that efforts were made to prevent or delay the investigation and prosecution of cases arising from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
