The Apartheid-era Victims Family Group (AVFG) has welcomed a decision by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Directorate for Priority Crimes to collaborate efforts in the investigation and prosecution of apartheid-era crimes. This follows the recent decision by the Supreme Court of Appeal to refuse former apartheid policeman, Joao Rodrigues’ application for a stay of prosecution for his role in the murder of anti-apartheid activist, Ahmed Timol. This means Rodrigues will finally stand trial for Timol’s murder, nearly 50 years since it happened.
