Els and Sons

Security Branch Officers Neville Els and Seth Sons will be making representation to the Deputy National Director of Prosecutions by 30 September 2021. Once legal formalities have been concluded, decisions on the representations will be made. A previous decision made on 21 May 2020 not to prosecute Els and Sons was challenged by Webber Wentzel on 21 June 2020. The review decision is pending.

Haffejee Inquest

Death in detention: part two

An overview by Dr KV Moodley, prominent former Chatsworth doctor, community activist, former chairman of the ANC Chatsworth, close friend and comrade of the late Dr Hoosen Haffejee.

Finally, had it not been the persistence of Imtiaz Cajee and the Ahmed Timol Foundation, this inquest and others would not have been reopened.

“We must ensure that their efforts have not been in vain, and that all deaths in detention must have reopened inquests so that families come to know exactly what transpired and hopefully find closure,” he concluded.
