MONDAY: 25th OCTOBER 1971

“On Monday morning our driver came and they interrogated him. I sent him home in the event of the police coming back. In the afternoon on the same day they came back and again ransacked the place. I told them that I wanted to see my son”. Testimony of Ahmed Timol’s mother, Mrs Hawa Timol to the TRC on 30 April 1996 in Johannesburg.

The Roodepoort Indian High School incident book recorded on 25.10.71: “During the weekend in the course of raids by the Security Police the typewriters from the typing room, the office typewriter, the duplicator and the adding machine were taken away. Mr AAI Ahmed who has the keys to the typing room informed me that he has been given a receipt for his typewriter that will probably be returned on Wednesday. Mr KC Naik and Mr A Timol have been detained by the Security Police. Their whereabouts are not known.”
