“I saw Ahmed as one of the gentlest persons I ever met, and how could this have happened to him? It was so unfair that someone who had never hurt anybody at all, neither mentally or physically, or even with his words, could be the victim of such brutal and horrendous treatment,” says Meg Shorrock, who knew Ahmed in London and subsequently married Essop Pahad, a Cabinet Minister in the democratic South African government. Meg recalls how, in a lighter moment, on one occasion in London, everybody jumped on top of Timol and tickled him.
